Gbegiri is made from beans and it's easy to make. It is mostly served with Ewedu soup and stew with amala to make a dish called abula.

Equipment

  • Pressure Cooker or Pot
  • Cooking broom - Ijabe or Blender
  • Sieve - Ajo

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Brown or black eyed beans
  • 2 tbspn Palm oil
  • 1 tbspn Cayenne pepper
  • 1 tbsp Locust beans
  • 1 Stock cube
  • 1 Salt

Instructions

  • Peel the beans. Click HERE for the easiest and fastest way to peel beans-(How to peel beans with blender)
  • Put the beans in a pot or pressure cooker, add water and cook till very soft.
  • When beans is cooked, take it off heat. Pour cooked beans in blender and blend till smooth.
  • Pour blended beans back in the pot and put on stove. Add stock cube, locust beans, cayenne pepper, palmoil and salt to taste.
  • Leave to cook for 5 minutes then take off heat.

Best served with Ewedu, buka stew and amala
You can substitute Cayenne pepper for fresh pepper (Scotchbonnet +bell pepper) 
Gbegiri thickens easily which is ok. Add water to get your desired concistency.
