Canned Salmon Pasta Recipe Without Cream
This canned salmon pasta recipe is simple yet so flavorful and tasty. It is the type of dish one will order at a restaurant but this is made in the comfort of the home and is budget-friendly.
Canned Salmon is easy to get in the stores and is inexpensive compared to fresh salmon. Not only is it cheaper, but because tinned salmon is a pantry staple with a long shelf life, most people have it accessible in their kitchen pantry. It can be used to make delicious meals for the family and this salmon pasta with tomatoes and no cream is one that my family love.

Here are what you will need to make this recipe:
Pasta- Any pasta of choice. I used penne pasta you can use any other short or long pasta such as spaghetti and fettuccine.

Tomato paste- This is also known as tomato puree.
Garlic

Stock cubes- This is optional. I like to add to my sauces for extra flavor.

How To Cook Pasta With Canned Salmon
Here's the step-by-step instructions on how to cook salmon pasta without cream:
Step 1- Place a pan on medium heat, add oil then chopped onions. Saute the onions till fragrant (about 1-2 minutes).
Step 2- Add tomato paste, chopped tomatoes, Italian seasoning, parsley, black pepper, paprika, garlic granules, stock cube (crushed) and salt. Stir and cook the tomatoes for 10 minutes. Intermittently stir it so it doesn't stick to the pan or burn.
Step 3- Drain the canned salmon and add it to the tomato sauce. Use the cooking spoon to gently break the salmon into smaller chunks but be careful not to crumble it (unless you like it all crumbled in the sauce). Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes.
Step 4- While the sauce is cooking, add water to a separate pot, bring it to a boil, and add salt and pasta. Stir and boil the pasta till it is aldente.
Reserve a cup of pasta water and set it aside. Drain the pasta.
Step 5- Add the pasta water, and parmesan to the salmon sauce, stir, and add the pasta.
Gently stir till the salmon sauce is well mixed with the pasta while being careful not to crumble the salmon.
Step 6- Garnish with fresh basil or parsley. Sprinkle parmesan over the pasta (Optional).
Take off the heat and serve.
What To Serve With
Some accompaniments that go with pasta are:
Garlic bread
Roasted veggies
How To Store
Let the pasta cool completely then pack it into an airtight container before storing it in the fridge for up to 4 days.
To reheat on the stove, add into a pan, add some water, and let the pasta heat while stirring it occasionally till it's warmed through (about 3-4 minutes).
How to reheat in the microwave- Add the pasta to a microwave-safe plate, sprinkle some water in it, and microwave it on high heat for 2 minutes.
Tips
- If you have spinach or peas you can add them towards the end of cooking this dish. It adds more nutrients to the meal.
- You can also use leftover baked or air-fried salmon.
- This is salmon pasta with tomato and cream recipe however if you prefer to add cream, add a cup of double cream before adding pasta water into the sauce. You should then reduce the pasta water to half a cup.
