Boiled Turkey Wings Recipe

This boiled turkey wings recipe is simple, and the wings taste absolutely delicious. It is juicy and tender from the skin down to the bone, and for browned, crispy skin, finish off cooking them in the air fryer or oven for a golden, tasty turkey mid wings.

Boiling turkey wings, you can have juicy and tender turkey without second-guessing whether they will be juicy inside or not, and in just 25 minutes. This makes it the quickest method of cooking turkey wings.

I use just a few herbs and spices to season the turkey for boiling. They are all pantry ingredients that can be found in most people's kitchen cupboards.

Boiled wings are also healthier and contain fewer calories than deep-fried turkey. They can be served as is or tossed in sauce.

Cooking turkey wings on the stove top is simple, and this recipe shows you how.

Ingredients

Here is what you will need (The full ingredient list is in the recipe card at the bottom of this post):

Turkey wings - I buy ready-cut wings.

Onion - Fresh onion works best for this recipe. Use a brown or yellow onion.

Curry powder - I love using this in boiling poultry. It flavors the turkey wings and the stock.

Dried thyme

Paprika

Parsley

Black pepper- You can substitute this for cayenne pepper.

Stock cubes

Salt

Boil and Bake Turkey Wings

After boiling the Turkey wings, you can bake them in the oven or air fryer for a golden brown, crispy skin finish. Afterwards, if desired, toss in pepper sauce or any sauce of your choice.
To bake, arrange the wings on a baking tray and bake in the oven at 220C/420F for 6 minutes on each side.

How Long To Boil Turkey Wings

The size of the wings determines how long it takes to boil turkey wings. How tender you want them also applies. For medium-sized ones like the ones I used in this recipe, it takes 20-35 minutes ( I like them firm and tender, but not mushy). The bigger they are, the longer they take to cook.
You'll know they are cooked when the internal temperature reaches at least 75 °C. Check this with an instant-read thermometer.

FAQS

Can I boil frozen turkey wings?

Yes, you can. Follow the same instructions in this recipe, but add additional time to the cook time. The internal temperature should be at least 165F/75C when cooked.

Do I re-season after boiling before baking them?

You do not have to re-season before crisping the turkey in the oven after boiling.

Serving Suggestion

Here are some suggestions for what to serve with turkey :

Onion rice, jollof rice

Diced potatoes

Air fryer baby carrots

Air fryer frozen roast potatoes

How To Store

Let the wings cool completely, then pack them into a ziploc or sealable container and store them in the fridge for up to 3 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.

They can be reheated in the microwave, in a pan on the stovetop, in the oven, or on the grill.

Tips

  • Let the Turkey wings sit in the stock for 5 minutes before removing them from the pot. This allows it to infuse more flavor.
  • If you like, you can add carrots to boil with the turkey.
  • Don't discard the stock. Use stock in rice dishes and recipes that call for it.
  • If tossing the turkey in sauce, do that as soon as you bring it out of the oven.
